Sustainability in the built environment

I work with landowners and developers to create more sustainable communities. This is an iterative process; understanding what the landowner or developer is hoping to achieve, what is required by the planning authority and what is appropriate for the site proposed.

My preference is to be involved in the project at the earliest opportunity, and be part of the design team. This is to ensure that sustainability is addressed throughout, and is an integral part of the project, rather than an add-on. I take the broadest approach to sustainability and adjust it to meet the client's requirements.

I develop sustainability strategies which inform, and are informed by, other strategies such as energy, water, transport and food. I would work with those consultants to ensure that what they are proposing meets the sustainability aspirations, while also understanding what their constraints are.
